Import, found on the connections tab of the ribbon, brings in data from external files. This function saves users time by replacing manual copying and pasting and enables model auditability by creating a clear record of the source of external values.

Imported values also allow for one-click updates in Parfera when the source file changes.

Create an import group

Specify the import type and connect to a data source. Add new data sources to the file by selecting the “+ New file” in the data source dropdown.

Note: As of version 1.0.4, import is only available for Excel files.

Once a compatible source is specified, the preview will appear and render all values in the source file.

Select the range of source cells to import with the mouse or keyboard, before moving to the Parfera grid to specify a location for the import. A preview of the import group appears next to the mouse cursor when selecting the location. Select a cell in the Parfera grid to specify the top-left cell of the import group location.

Once a location in the Parfera grid is specified, the imported values appear and an import icon appears in the tool column of each row containing imported values. Import groups are shown in matching colors in both the preview and grid for clarity.

Import groups are also listed below the preview with all of their constituent rows and locations. Each row within an import group has a unit setting, which allows the imported values to be scaled to the correct value for calculations.

Example: Imported rows from a source file where values represent thousands should be assigned the unit #K so that Parfera properly converts 1.23 to 1,230 for calculations.

Note: Import row units specified in the import interface are independent of row units specified in the Parfera grid. Import units scale the value stored in the backend for calculations, while Parfera row units only change the appearance of values and do not affect the underlying values.

Edit an import group

Change the imported selection by clicking and dragging the edge of the import group in the preview. Change the location of the import group in the Parfera grid by deleting the import group and creating a new one in the location.

Remove a single row from an import group by clicking on the delete icon next to the row record in the expanded import group.

Note: Import groups are always continuous ranges of cells across both the source file and Parfera. Breaking up an import group by rearranging rows in the grid or deleting rows from the middle of an import group will cause the import group to split into multiple smaller import groups that can be manipulated independently.

Override imported values

Imported values can be overridden by typing a new value directly into the desired cell in the grid. Hover over an overridden cell to see the original value.

Delete an import group

Delete an entire import group by clicking on the delete icon in the group header.

Update imports

Import values remain static, regardless of changes to the source file, until the user clicks the sync button. At that point, all import groups from the currently active source file are updated to the latest values in the source file.
